Hackers Thwarted

UEFI

Motherboards with UEFI

Background note. All computers have a motherboard with vast numbers of electronic components permanently embedded (soldered) onto it. Other chosen components can be plugged into the motherboard to make a functional computer work. Eg Processor, RAM modules and up market video cards.

Modern computers now have a UEFI bios chip installed onto the motherboard.

Hacking tools are often tiny pieces of software that are invisible to the user, but they broadcast user’s information back to a central data center. Commonly called spam or phishing software, often sent via email.

Getting “bad guys” hacking tools installed onto people’s computers was made much more difficult when UEFI motherboards became the norm.

On older computers before UEFI motherboards, hackers craftily installed their hacking tools into the bios before the computer actually starts fully and the virus protection software could not detect this.
